2009 News Archive

1st December 2009 - Wakefield Christmas Market job cancelled

Unfortunately our slot at this event has been cancelled. We are in touch with the organisers and hope to be able to play on another date.

10th October 2009 - Get well soon!

Eric is currently unable to conduct the band due to illness. Eric's friend Roy Roe is taking the band until he is able to return. The band wishes Eric a speedy recovery, and is grateful to Roy for stepping in and helping out.

1st August 2009 - End of Summer Season

The band finished off their summer season by playing at the Ossett Gala on 11th July - just a stone's throw from their rehearsal room. Last year we only played for about 20 minutes, but the organisers invited us back to play for longer this year! A wide variety of pieces were played from classical to marches, and pop to the shows. This year, it did not rain on us - perhaps because we didn't play The Thunderer.

The previous weekend saw the band play at another regular venue - Camp Hill Pennine Community in Chapelthorpe. [Photos]

We are now rehearsing new music ready for Christmas and next year's concerts.

1st July 2009 - Hot Horbury Show

Wakefield Orchestral Wind played at a packed Horbury Show in Carr Lodge Park on Sunday, on one of the hottest days of the year. The band played two slots with a break in between. A gazebo provided some much-needed shade! Other entertainment at the show included Punch & Judy, falconry, and a dog show. We shared the gazebo with Horbury Victoria Silver Band who played both before us and in between our two slots. We are grateful for the use of their music stands as it saved us from having to put ours up and take them down!

Some photos are available in the Gallery.

1st June 2009 - Band baby

The band wish to congratulate Kathryn and her husband on the safe arrival of their second child. Hannah Lucy was born nine days late on 14th May and weighed 8lb 9oz.

1st January 2009 - Happy New Year!

Wakefield Orchestral Wind would like to wish all their supporters a very happy new year.  The band are looking forward to a good year of music making, and would welcome anyone who wishes to join them, particularly those playing bass instruments.
