A brief history of the band
Invitations were sent out to prospective members on 11th January 1990. The band actually started in February 1990. Catherine Clarke had the idea for the band when it was recognised that there was a need for an adult band in the Wakefield area. Rehearsals originally took place at the Cliff Villa site of Wakefield College until it closed, and then moved to the Thornes Park site. The band now rehearses at the Ossett War Memorial Community Centre. The first conductor was Dennis Wilby.
Original members still in the band are; Geoff Brodie, Paul Hannon and Julia Percival.
From 2006 to 2008 the band was conducted by Nigel Horne. He had to leave due to work commitments abroad and Eric Longford Jessop took over. For much of 2010 Eric was out of action awaiting a hip replacement so his friend Roy Roe took the band in his absence.
